Passion Pit are the latest band to rise on the back of a rare CD-R from blog curio to potential magazine covers with albums out on a major label. The Boston band formed as a way for lead singer Michael Angelakos to finish an EP he was writing for his girlfriend for Valentine’s Day, and that album eventually got picked up and released by Frenchkiss. The EP, Chunk of Change, led to Passion Pit signing with Columbia in the U.K., and an expanded studio budget for Manners, their full-length debut. Like many blog-hype bands before them, the record deal allows them to expand their sonic palette to sound like something more than a bedroom project. HIM - Screamworks: Love in Theory and Practice (2010)

Screamworks: Love in Theory and Practice is the seventh studio album by Finnish rock band HIM, scheduled to be released in the United States on February 9, 2010. It will also be released in Finland on February 5, the United Kingdom and France on February 8, Japan on February 10, and Germany and the Netherlands on February 12. The first single “Heartkiller” was released on December 8, 2009. The song was posted on the band’s MySpace and made available for streaming on December 4. On December 22nd, the official website announced a “Heartagram Edition” containing the album, an acoustic disc titled “Baudelaire in Braille” containing all the albums songs, and a limited run of screen prints titled “Saint Scream”. The second disc “Baudelaire in Braille” is also available in the 2-disc special edition. Recently, HIM has played several new songs live including “Heartkiller,” “Scared To Death,” and “Love, The Hardest Way.” Clips can be found on YouTube for all 3 songs.

The album title was inspired by one of frontman “Ville Valo’s relationships that has since ended. He told Kerrang!: “It’s a sonic diary of that (affair). The album’s also about both the theoretical and practical aspects of relationships which are an impossible problem to resolve. ‘Screamworks’ represents a cathartic , primal scream; it’s a big middle finger; it’s a f–k off, I want to do what I want to do.”
